Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) Information Center

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a group of diseases marked by abnormal production of blood cells by the bone marrow.

An estimated one-third of patients with myelodysplastic syndromes will have their disease progress to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). AML that develops from myelodysplastic syndromes tends to be difficult to treat. Fortunately, advances in chemotherapy and stem cell transplantation are improving outcomes among patients with myelodysplastic syndromes. In addition, advances in supportive care allow symptoms of myelodysplastic syndromes to be effectively managed, leading to improved quality of life.

Understanding treatment options for myelodysplastic syndromes, the role of different doctors specializing in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndromes, and how and when to access new and innovative treatment options available through clinical trials is essential in order to achieve the best outcome from treatment of myelodysplastic syndromes.

The Cancer Consultants Myelodysplastic Syndrome Information Center has been designed to help patients understand myelodysplastic syndromes and treatment options for myelodysplastic syndromes while providing ongoing information, inspiration, support, and community to individuals affected by a diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome.
