Melanoma Information Center
Each year in the United States, more than 62,000 people are diagnosed with melanoma. There are an estimated 723,000 melanoma survivors living in the United States today. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation increases the risk of melanoma, and sun protection plays an important role in melanoma prevention. Once melanoma occurs, it is important to detect and treat it as early as possible in order to obtain the best outcomes.
Early-stage melanoma may be treated with surgery alone, but treatment of more advanced disease remains challenging. Researchers are continuing to explore new approaches to treatment in clinical trials. Advances are also being made in supportive care; high-quality supportive care makes melanoma treatment more tolerable and improves quality of life.
Understanding melanoma treatment options, the role of different doctors specializing in the treatment of melanoma, and how and when to access new and innovative melanoma treatment options available through clinical trials is essential in order to achieve the best outcome from melanoma treatment.
The Cancer Consultants Melanoma Information Center has been designed to help patients understand options for melanoma prevention, early detection, and treatment, while providing ongoing information, inspiration, support, and community to individuals affected by a diagnosis of melanoma.
