Bone Cancer Information Center
Each year in the United States, more than 2,000 people are diagnosed with primary bone or joint cancer (cancer that originates in the bone or tissue adjacent to the bone, such as cartilage). Cancer can also spread to the bone from other sites in the body, such as the breast or prostate. This is referred to as secondary bone cancer, or cancer metastatic to the bone.
Advances in surgery and chemotherapy have contributed to improved survival among patients with primary bone cancer, and advances in supportive care have made these treatments more tolerable. Among patients with cancer that is metastatic to the bone, treatments such as radiation therapy, use of bisphosphonate drugs, and surgery can play an important role in managing symptoms and/or slowing cancer progression.
Understanding bone cancer treatment options, the role of different doctors specializing in the treatment of bone cancer, and how and when to access new and innovative bone cancer treatment options available through clinical trials is essential in order to achieve the best outcome from bone cancer treatment.
The Cancer Consultants Bone Cancer Information Center has been designed to help patients understand bone cancer and bone cancer treatment options while providing ongoing information, inspiration, support, and community to individuals affected by a diagnosis of bone cancer.
